Mother's Log May 2015
Spent the day in St. George with the O family while the Dads were getting CLE'S. The kids were so cute today! Ally and M spent most of the morning in a closet talking about secret spy club tactics with a Where is Waldo book and creating a play. Then Ally, Emmy, and M acted it out for us. It was about a princess going missing and something to do with a tiger and a lady in waiting in disguise...
Played tennis with Sami for a little while. I can't wait for her to start taking serious lessons this summer so we can really play together. I need a tennis buddy.
Kassi is who really cracked me up though. She had a little pink car floaty that she buzzed around the kiddy pool in. She wouldn't take it off, even though submerging all the way into the water would have been warmer. Then while Jer and C played tennis, she sat on the back of the couch and looked longingly out the window at them while yelling, "Dad! Help me!!" As in, come save me from the confines of this condo and take me with you! Then tonight we were reading scriptures before bed off of my phone and everyone was taking a turn holding the phone and reading a verse. When it's Kassi's turn, we usually just have her repeat after us. This time, though, she wanted to hold my phone. And then she said, "I do it!" And started pretending to read. She went into this elaborate story that we could only understand half of about Mom, Dad, temples, and some other stuff. I kept trying to get her to repeat the actual words of her verse but she kept insisting she could do it herself. She had us all crying with laughter. It was knd of those moments you wish you could can for later...
I love girls nights! Tiff and sisters and I took mom out for a going away dinner tonight. It was nice to just sit and have grown up girl talk.
I had a great date with Sami tonight! We went to La Caille for a sixth grade field trip. LaCaille is a very expensive and elegant restaurant located on 22 acres of gorgeous landscaping along the base of the mountains outside of SLC. The kids learned about table etiquette at school this year so this was their chance to practice. (One of the teachers knows the owners and has been taking the sixth graders and family members there at a very discounted price for years.) We walked a bit of the grounds. They had peacocks and swans and incredible gardens. Then they took us into a large atrium for dinner. Both Sami and I tried our first escargot. She really liked it. Snails are too chewy for my taste. There was even sorbet to cleanse the pallet between courses. Sami was so nervous about getting her etiquette correct. It was very cute. Such a fun evening!
There she goes, melting my heart again. Kassi was in the car and started singing "Let it go, let it go, I just want to go home!" Then when we got home, she went and sat on the big kid potty all by herself and tinkled. No help at all! Then she went upstairs, ran straight to her sisters' bedroom where I had just tucked them in and said into the room in the sweetest voice ever, "Goodnight sisters!" Such a sweetheart. Of course this was all in between all the tantrums about wanting to carry the take out bag from the restraunt, wanting only mom to buckle her, not wanting her sisters to sing in the car, and wanting to brush her own teeth. There's no such thing as perfection, right?
Emmy had her end of kindergarten testing today. She got all her Zeno words except ARE. I have tried everything I can think of to get her to memorize that word and she still isn't getting it... she passed though! First grade here she comes!!

I had a slightly upset, gurgly stomach as I was rocking Kassi tonight and she started giggling. I asked her what was funny and she told me the baby in my tummy was tooting! Goofball.
Mother's Log April 2015
I usually love Conference weekend. And this one has had a lot of anticipation because it's also j's birthday and Easter. This morning we woke up, had a great breakfast, did our Easter Egg hunt, and watched the first session of Conference. then we got some bad news. Jeremy's grandpa is in the hospital with pneumonia and the bacteria is in his blood stream. He's on a ventilator and non-responsive. He's just been life flighted to Twin. Easter and birthdays and conference talks will have to wait. The girls are home with Mom and Jeremy and I are on our way to Idaho.
April 5:
We almost lost Grandpa last night. Jeremy and I stopped by the hospital as soon as we got to Twin, then checked into barf hotel (haven't been back here since the stomach flu of Thanksgiving). We had just fallen to sleep when Jeremy got a call from his uncle to get the hospital. grandpa started to A-fib and his blood pressure dropped so low, they didn't think he would make it. At 4am, he finally stabilized and Jeremy came back to the hotel. Being pregnant, I had stayed at the hotel to try to get some much needed sleep. I don't travel very well anymore. I am especially worn out because we just got home from our Spring Break trip on Thursday. Anyway, Grandpa is now stable but he's still not responding. We plan to head home tomorrow. I miss my girls already. Today is Easter. I've always been with them on Easter.
April 11:
Grandpa woke up and is in a recovery home. He is somewhat responsive but still very worn down. Sami and Jeremy went to see him.
April 18:
Long Week.
House remodeling. Three nephews (ages 1, 5, and 7). Auntie visiting. Fevers all around. School Events. Two days of carpet installation. I'm beat.
April 20:
The house is finally DONE!! Well, phase 1 anyway. We still have a couple odds and ends to finish up. A closet. Some flooring. Some baseboards. But it's finally presentable! We have been living in construction mode since the basement flooded right after Christmas. It's so nice to have things more livable. The hardest part has been these last four weeks and dealing with 'Richard the Handyman' who did all the mudding, painting, and finishing work. That is a man I hope to never have in my house again. He was crude, rude, and wreaked of cigarettes. Not to mention he was SO SLOW. His part was only supposed to take 40-60 hours. He took over 150 hours. But he's gone now. The appraisal (yes Jeremy decided to refinance because we finally sold our other home--woo-hoo!!!--right on top of everything else) is over. The house is beautiful. My life can mellow a little. Phew!
April 28
My first baby grew up on me... Sami is already spending time at the junior high and I want to cry! yesterday, I took her to the Junior High for an interview for which position she would have. As I watched her hurry into the school without me-without even looking back-I was astonished to see how grown up she's become. Then today we went to a sweater fitting meeting and she found out she was selected as the 7th grade student body secretary, which is the position she wanted. I also received a phone calll informing me that she is getting "kidnapped" by the older officers at 5:30am on Friday for an initiatory surprise breakfast. (A tradition that apparently goes back generations) but my initial thought was- what!? You're doing what to my baby at 5:30 in the morning??? They grow up too fast...
I took Kassi with me to get a pedicure today. She was so good! She just sat in the chair next to me and patiently watched my treatment. We were in a spa so she had to be quiet. The cutie whispered every word she said. When it was all done, she got to have her nails painted too. She sat and watched her nails very intently and proudly. She was getting to be all grown up like Mommy! Such a doll!

All about Kassi
Kassi is just a couple months away from turning three and she's growing and changing in so many ways!
--she loves gymnastics! She loves the trampoline, parachute, and hot dog roles. She'll even hot dog role across the living room floor. She's gotten really good at walking on the beam, forward jumping, apart togethers, and somersaults. I'm just loving how her coordination has improved.
--she has named her stuffed toys by the sound they make such as Meow-meow, Baa, Moo, and Ooh-ooh! (A little monkey with huge eyes... He's the favorite) then all pigs are called "oinks," ducks are "quacks," horses are "neighs" and all roosters are "cock-a-doos." The exceptions to the rule are Fishy, Lamby from the Doc McStuffins cartoon, Puppy, Froggy, and "El-phant" the pink elephant she got for Easter.
--Every time Kassi prays, she asks for "Mommy feel better." I think it's because I was so sick with morning sickness when she learned how. It reminds me of Ally when she learned to pray. She would always ask for "Daddy come home safely" even when he was sitting right there.
--When I was going through my icky time, she was very concerned about me. She would hold my face in her hands and look into my eyes and say "You OK Mommy?" It was the sweetest thing ever.
--Whenever she falls down or drops something without getting hurt, she makes an effort to let you know she's OK. I will be in a different room and hear "oops! I OK Mommy!"
--She isn't seeming to grasp the baby in my tummy thing. She laughed at my enlarging tummy when I was changing the other day and I finally was able to explain to her that my belly is growing because her little sister is in there. She got it and kissed my tummy. Now whenever she walks into my closet and sees the little gitl outfit I bought for the baby, she says "for your tummy?" Then yesterday she lifted up her shirt, stuck our her belly, and announced that there was a baby in her tummy too! So still not quite getting it but making progress...
--Kassi loves to torment our dog, Bell. There is no doubt that she is higher on the chain than the animal that is almost double her size. Her favorite thing to do is tackle Bell's head and lay there while Bell whimpers and tries to get out. One day, she was tying a string around the door of Bell's crate to lock her in while humming 'Twinkle Little Star' to herself. That night when I sang that song to her at bedtime, she started chuckling to herself.
--somewhere Kassi heard the phrase 'Okee Dokee.' I am guessing it was from Auntie or Grandma because it's not a phrase I use often. It has been really cute though--she is constantly saying "okee okee!"
--Kassi loved her recent visit to Legoland! It's just her kind of place. There were several rides however that she couldn't ride. And neither could I. So while the others were off on roller coasters and such, Kassi and I looked around at the different Lego worlds and went to the aquarium! It was Kassi's first time in an aquarium and she loved all the fish and sea life. Her favorites were the jellyfish and seahorses.
At one point, though, her older sisters were driving little Lego cars and she just watched excitedly through the fence. She didn't insist on riding or throw a tantrum. She was just excited for her sisters. After they were done and we prepared to move on, Kassi let out a squeal and ran. She saw a model Lego car sitting outside the fence! She sat and pretended to drive that car for at least five or ten minutes before I was finally able to get her to come with us to the next thing.

Thoughts on March 2015
OK. I didn't blog at all in March. Things just got crazy. I was still sick for most of it. We started meeting to talk about next year's play at the school. I traveled twice and I was busy working on the house. Things just got nuts. But here are some things that happened that deserve mentioning:
Sami made SBO!! She was selected as the only sixth grader from her school to be a Student Body Officer in Junior High next year! They select one kid from each elementary school feeding in. Sami was very nervous about applying because she wasn't selected for Student Council last year and took the rejection hard. We encouraged her to try though. You never know if you don't try... but being the mean parents that we are, we made her do the entire process herself. Her application essay was about a time when she encouraged her peers to be nice to a boy who was getting teased and about her service project she ran on her own last Fall. The selection committee said her essay kept floating to the top of the pile! I am so proud of this girl! She worked hard for and deserves this chance.
Jeremy and I took a trip back to the Bay for a few days. He went for work, I went for a break. It was very nice to get away and go back to some of our favorite places in downtown Mountain View and San Fran. I was also able to meet up with my aunt and a good friend I haven't seen in years. It was a good, relaxing trip for the most part. But oh how stressful airports can be! We got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport from San Francisco. It took us almost two hours to get there and we almost missed our flight. Jeremy dropped me at the terminal before returning the rental car hoping that at least one of us would make it home to our girls that night. I made it right as they were starting to board and waited anxiously at the gate determined not to get on alone unless I had to. Miraculously, they took a long time boarding and Jeremy came running up to join me as they were almost finished. Staying stress free while pregnant is so overrated... right?
My little brother, Daniel, got engaged!! He will be the 4th out of the six of us to get married. I'm happy for him! Long engagement though. They aren't getting married until January. As a matter of fact, she's living in Brazil until January...
My four month old puppy went in for her last set of shots and weighed in at 38lbs! The vet said she's about halfway to full grown... Heaven help my kitchen...
I'm back at play writing! We are planning next year's play and I'm writing the script. Not directing this time though... whew! Maybe I will again in a couple years when I won't have a newborn strapped to me.
Spring break took us South again this year. For once it matched up to Jeremy's sister's spring break so we spent it with them. We went to Legoland and the beach and Old Town Dan Diego and just hung out. Fun times! Emmy, Landon, and Ally were inseparable. They made a roly poly metropolis. It was pretty cute.

Mother's Log February 2015
We are replacing the windows in our house. All 46 of them! Very exciting (and expensive) stuff. This morning as I was taking the girls to school, they installed the small window next to our side door, which is the one we use the most. When I came back home, I saw Kassi standing in the window, blowing on it and then rubbing it with her fingers. We can't waist any time breaking the new windows in, right?
two hours later: haha! Kassi just started ringing the bells at the back door and calling, "Let. Me! Oouut." She is such a nut! She has also adopted a chair from the tea table as her perfect stool. She can maneuver it easily and reach every light switch in the house with it. Our lights have been going insane. :)
